Alma Jean Powell was born on July 13, 1952, in Stanton, Tennessee, to William Henry Powell, Sr. and Ida Lee Douglas Powell. Her spiritual foundation was established at First Baptist Keeling, where she was baptized and began her lifelong walk with Christ. 

Alma received her education through the Tipton County School District and later graduated from Frazier High School in Covington, Tennessee. At the age of 19, she married Albert Whitmore, Jr., stepping boldly into a new chapter of life and relocating to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Together, they built a family and were blessed with three children: Tyrone (Sheila) Whitmore of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the late Albert Whitmore III; and Philip Whitmore of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 

In time, Alma’s journey led her to meet and marry the love of her life, Elmer Johnson, a union marked by companionship, devotion, and deep affection. During her many years in Wisconsin, Alma served faithfully with Community Financial Services, dedicating 29 years as a Customer Service Teller. Her quiet professionalism, steady presence, and unwavering commitment earned the admiration of colleagues and customers alike.

In 2019, Alma Jean Whitmore returned to Tennessee, reconnecting with the familiar rhythms of home. She embraced the quiet comforts and simple joys of her hometown, finding peace in familiar places and familiar faces. 

On August 4th at 6:40 a.m., Alma’s earthly journey came to a gentle close, surrounded by loved ones. She leaves her legacy in the hearts of her devoted husband- Elmer Lee Johnson; her children- Tyrone (Sheila) Whitmore and Philip Whitmore; siblings: Dessalene (Curtis) Leavy of Stanton, TN; Linda (Frank) Gayden of Mason, TN; Vernetia Boyd of Mason, TN; William Henry (Dorothy) Powell, Jr. of Memphis, TN; Calvin (Elaine) Powell of Stanton, TN; Roy Powell of Milwaukee, WI; Timothy Powell and Marvin Powell, both of Mason, TN. She is also cherished by 13 grandchildren, 20 great‑grandchildren, 1 aunt, 3 uncles, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Awaiting her in glory are her parents, William Henry Powell Sr. and Ida Lee Powell, her son Albert Whitmore III, and siblings Ola Douglas, Ressie Malone, Michael Powell, and Carla Bonds.
