Obituary

On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Annie Bernice Humphreys, lovingly known as "Mome," answered God's call to her eternal home. She peacefully transitioned at her residence in Mason, TN, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family.

Born as the second child to the late Benjamin and Evelyn Thompson, Bernice embraced her faith at an early age, accepting Christ as her personal Savior and Lord at Fredonia Baptist Church. As time passed, she continued her spiritual journey with Greater Fredonia Baptist Church, both in Mason, TN.

Bernice pursued her education through the Fayette County School District . Later in life, she met and married the late Alfred Humphreys Jr., and together they built a loving family. Their union was blessed with four children:  Diana (Stanley) Harwell, Carol Patterson and Thomas Dale "Uncle D" Humphreys (who were dedicated care givers) and the late William Earl Humphreys.

Bernice devoted years of service to Arlington Developmental Center, where she remained a faithful employee until her retirement in 1994. Known for the kindness and care she extended to all, she found joy in simple yet meaningful pleasures—nurturing beautiful flowerbeds, gardening, quilting, sitting on the porch, and lovingly preparing meals for her family, even those she herself did not eat. She took immense pride in creating a welcoming space where all could gather and share in good food and fellowship.

In addition to her children, Bernice leaves behind a cherished legacy that will continue through her 3 grandchildren that she raised: Timey Humphreys, Timothy Humphreys, Chono Montgomery and 2 great grandchildren -Cordasha (Jaterrio) Prewitt, and Tylun Humphreys: five siblings- Willola Humphreys, Florine Harwell, Katherine Powell, Thomas Harwell, and Joe Harwell; four sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, eight additional grandchildren, twenty additional great-grandchildren, and thirteen great-great-grandchildren. A special friend, Stacey Brown, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

She now joins her parents, her beloved son, eleven siblings—including Willie Frank Thompson and Stella Mae Wilkerson—and two grandchildren, Derrick Washington and Deonna McNeal, who preceded her in passing.

May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her legacy of love and devotion continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
