Betty Jean Hopson Brooks was born in Stanton, Tennessee to J. B. Mask and Nola Bell Hopson. In her youth, Betty embraced Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at Douglass Chapel C.M.E. Church and remained faithful until her final chapter.
She later met and married Sam Brooks, and together they blended a family of three children: Yolanda Brooks of Stanton, TN: Kimball (Brenda)
Hopson of Fairfield, CA and Schwanna (Doug) Bentley of Memphis, TN.
Betty was employed over two decades at Somerville Mills and later retired from the Jockey Company, where she served as a skilled seamstress. She lived with unwavering faith, meeting life's challenges with strength and compassion.
Betty Jean Brooks is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Sam Brooks, her beloved children, her siblings: Willette Mask and Walter B. Bask of Memphis, TN; Regena Smith of Merryville, IN; and Alice (Paul) Larkin of St. Louis, MO. Her legacy continues through eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and her great-aunt, Fannie Miller of Gary, IN: a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings: Arlain Hopson Smith, Edna Churn, Kate Peterson, Cozette Price, Annie R. Miller, Amye B. Miller, Margaret Mask, and Cynthia Cobb.
Betty's life was a testament to faith, family, and community. She lived with grace and love, and her memory will forever inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.
