Obituary

The journey of Corey DeWayne Montgomery, Sr. began in Memphis, TN, on October 15, 1980, when he was welcomed into the world by his loving parents, the late Shedrick Montgomery and the late Patricia Tate.

From a young age, Corey embraced his faith, accepting Christ as his personal Savior and Lord. He pursued his education in the Tipton County School District, graduating with the class of 2000. He was also a dedicated member of Emmanuel Lodge #8, embodying its values of brotherhood and service.

On March 19, 2016, Corey married his soulmate, Chenile Springfield—the "apple of his eye." His love for cooking, especially grilling, was unmatched, and he earned a reputation for his incredible skill at the grill.

Professionally, Corey served as a Customer Service Representative at Rent One before continuing his career with AutoZone Parts Transportation Service. Even in the face of health challenges, Corey remained resilient, never allowing them to diminish his joy or enthusiasm for life.

Known affectionately as "Big Ball," Corey had a lively presence that brightened every gathering. He was cool and laid-back, yet straightforward and sincere—always speaking with honesty and standing by his word. His greatest joys were family gatherings, football, fishing, and his well-loved grilling sessions.

On June 3, 2025, Corey DeWayne Montgomery, Sr. passed away at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, TN, surrounded by the love of his family. He leaves behind an enduring legacy of love and cherished memories. His devoted wife, Chenile Springfield Montgomery of Brownsville, TN; his children, Corey Montgomery, Jr., and Latavia Carter; and his grandchild, Isaiah O. Montgomery, will forever carry his spirit in their hearts.

Corey is also survived by six beloved siblings: Ollie Montgomery of Covington, TN; Madeline Montgomery; Crystal Montgomery; Shedrick (Nadine) Montgomery, Jr.; Kenny (Ylonda) Montgomery; and Leslie Montgomery, all of Flint, MI. In addition, he is fondly remembered by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law, and countless relatives and friends.

A special thanks goes to his Aunt/Mother, Jessie Harvey, who stood by him throughout his life, and to Clara Fayne, who provided steadfast support over the years.

Corey lived a life defined by love, laughter, and unwavering strength. His memory will forever be treasured.
