Obituary

Dorothy Mae Britton was born on November 29, 1946, to the late Willie C. Wilder and Lenl Britton. From an early age, she embraced her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a devoted member of Bluff Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Brownsville, Tennessee. Dorothy attended schools in the Tipton County system, proudly graduating from Frazier High School in Covington, Tennessee, in 1966.

On December 17, 1970, Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert Lee Henderson in Haywood County, Tennessee. Their union was blessed with five children. Affectionately known by her loved ones as "Dot," "Dah Dah," or "D.O.," Dorothy will be remembered as a cherished member of the Brewer Sub community. She found joy in gardening, canning, singing, and caring for her family. She took great pride in being a dedicated full-time babysitter to Lakesha, Alisha, Nathaniel Henderson, Jr., and Keona Bowers.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Henderson; two sisters, Edna Johnson and Stella Carney; two stepsons, Robert George Henderson and Arthur Henderson; and her youngest son, Frederick Henderson, who passed on July 7, 2023.

Dorothy Mae Britton Henderson peacefully passed away at her home on March 15, 2025. Her memory lives on through her family, including her five children: Anthony Britton of Stanton, Tennessee; Willie Frank Henderson and Marshal Henderson of Somerville, Tennessee; Rosetta Bowers of Oakland, Tennessee; and Larry Henderson (Stephanie) of Memphis, Tennessee. She also leaves behind stepchildren: Robert Louis Henderson of Memphis, Tennessee; Thomas (Annette) Johnson of Memphis, Tennessee; Nathaniel (Carolyn) Henderson, Marvin Henderson, Dorothy Dickerson, Leatha (Anthony) Taylor, and Clara Henderson, all of Somerville, Tennessee. Dorothy's legacy is further carried on by her brother, Freddie (Janie) Easley of Nashville, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Keona Bowers of Oakland, Tennessee, and Janiya Britton of Covington, Tennessee; as well as a host of step-grandchildren, nieces, extended family members, close neighbors, and friends.
