The journey of Douglas Clay Toliver began in Covington, Tennessee, born to Wilbur L. Somerville and Ventrice Toliver on March 5, 1964.
Douglas received his education through the Tipton County School District and was a graduate from Covington High School.
From a young age, he embraced his faith at Plummer Grove CME Church and later became a dedicated member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Mason, Tennessee, where he faithfully served with the Deacon's Ministry.
Known for his unwavering work ethic and commitment, Douglas found immense fulfillment working with P & E Trucking, where he delivered mail throughout the Mid-South region. Affectionately called the "Mail Man," his vibrant personality brought smiles to countless faces along his routes.
A passionate sports fan, Douglas cheered enthusiastically for the Philadelphia Eagles—who was his favorite team.
On July 12, 2025, without warning or a final farewell, Douglas Clay Toliver was called home to eternal rest. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories in the hearts of those who knew him.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Ella Beatrice Toliver; two daughters: Shate Toliver ("Moonie") of Munford, TN and Shereka Williams of Mason, TN; Three sons: Enrique "Jake" Toliver of Memphis, TN, Damion (Karen) Bond, and Kevontis Brown, both of Mason, TN; Five grandchildren: Derrick "Tyren" Toliver, Deshundra Smith, Damarion Bond, Tineil Bond, and Da'Nyla Anderson.
Douglas also leaves to mourn six sisters: Devona (Jessie) Woodson, Cheryl (Omar) Hurdle-Hardaway, and Sherri Hurdle all of Chicago, IL; Bonita Toliver and Dorothy Toliver both of Memphis, TN; Allison (Early) Nelly of Covington, TN; two brothers: Vidal (Sharon) Toliver of Covington, TN and Wilbur Somerville of Chicago, IL.
He will be dearly remembered by his mother-in-law, Mrs. Annie Bond; four sisters-in-law: Gloria Taylor, Mae Stone, Cathy (Leo) Johnson, and Lori (Cornelius) Rivers; Two brothers-in-law: Melvin Bond and Jessie Lambert; three special friends: Elliot Morrison, Melvin Morrison, and Lawrence Edward Terry; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur (Apry) Somerville and Ventrice Toliver (Jimmy) Adams.
His presence lit up every room, every mail stop, every conversation. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
