Floyd "Rareback"
Louis Neal
Aug 27, 1946 — Apr 29, 2025
Floyd Louis Neal was born in Oakland, TN August 27, 1946, to the union of Roy and Rosie Jones Neal.
From a young age, Floyd embraced his faith, accepting Christ as his Lord and Savior and being baptized. He pursued his education within the Fayette County School System.
Floyd wed Frankie Maebel Steele December 23, 1964. Their love and commitment created a strong and devoted family, blessed with six cherished children: Dee Woods of Cordova, TN, Floyd "Tony" Neal Jr. of Oakland, TN, the late Carolyn (Anthony) Linsey, Queen (Andrae) Johnson of Arlington, TN, Barbara Neal-Arnett of Memphis, TN, and the late Wonda Neal-Houston.
Their home and hearts extended far beyond their biological children, as they lovingly embraced Courtney Neal of Lakeland, TN, Terry Woods of Oakland, TN, and the late Catina Woods Felix as their own. Their blended family continued to grow, welcoming three additional children: Mark Jones of Memphis, TN, Kevin (Tora) Jones of Oakland, TN, and Arthomas (Rotasha) Jones of Collierville, TN.
Throughout his life, Floyd was dedicated to hard work and service. He devoted many years to his role as an Environmental Services Supervisor at Arlington Developmental Center in Arlington, Tennessee, where he served with unwavering commitment until his retirement. He was also a proud member of the Masonic fraternity.
Known affectionately as "Rareback" by some and "Granddaddy" by his beloved grandchildren, Floyd's wit, warmth, and presence made a lasting impression on everyone around him. His energy and spirit ensured there was never a dull moment. In his free time, Floyd found joy in welding and crafting grills, reading the Bible, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and enjoying gaming and casino buffets with family and friends.
On April 29, 2025, Floyd peacefully answered his eternal call. He was preceded in death by his sister Jenny Lee Ransom and three brothers, Roy (June) Neal, Arthur (Sunny) Neal, and John Neal. He leaves behind two siblings, Rosetta Neal and Jim (Shugg) Jones, along with a loving family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will hold his memory close to their hearts.
