Jim Harvey
"Shugg" Jones
Mar 3, 1958 — Jul 10, 2025
Jim Harvey "Shugg" Jones fought a courageous battle until the final chapter of his life. On July 10, 2025, he departed peacefully at Methodist Hospital South in Memphis, TN.
Jim's journey began in Oakland, TN, born to the late Rosie Jones (Roy) Neal and Allen Powell. Over the years, he carried many beloved nicknames: "Shugg" to most, "Shugga Mane" to many, and in Memphis, "Lil Whisky." But to his three sons—Germale Jones, Antoyus "Dre" Jones, and Jermey (Brittney) Jones, all of Memphis—he was first and foremost a devoted father. His legacy continues not only through them, but also through the 11 grandchildren he deeply cherished.
Jim accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and held tightly to his faith throughout his life.
He was educated in the Fayette County School District and graduated from Fayette Ware High School. It was there he met his high school sweetheart, Brenda Miller, whom he later married. Together, they built a life full of love and were blessed with three sons.
Professionally, "Shugg" was a self-employed master welder, renowned for customizing grills that reached clients near and far. Outside of work, he was often found grilling with loved ones, tending to his garden, fishing, admiring classic vehicles, or simply "releasing shots with his pistol"—always bringing his unique spark to the moment. "Shugg" was undeniably the life of the party. Straightforward and bold, "he said what he meant and meant what he said"—and he only said it once.
In addition to his children and grandchildren, Jim leaves behind his sister, Rosetta Neal of Oakland, TN, along with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends. His laughter, light, and unforgettable presence will live on in each of us who had the privilege of knowing him.
He now joins in eternal rest his beloved wife, Brenda Miller Jones; his parents, Rosie (Roy) Neal and Allen Powell; and his siblings: Jennie Ransom, Floyd Neal, Arthur "Sunny" Neal, Roy (June) Neal, John Neal, L.W. Powell, Alan Powell, and Lou Helen Powell.
