Kay Frances Tipton was born on November 27, 1958, Kay Frances Tipton was born to the loving union of Charlie Joe Tipton and Mary Frances Williams Tipton in Covington, TN.
Kay accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Shiloh C.M.E. Church, where she nurtured her faith and actively served in numerous ministries. She was a dedicated member of the Usher and Choir Ministries and played a significant role in the Missionary Society on both local and district levels. In 1994, she was crowned "Ms. Shiloh" for three consecutive years, earning the affectionate title of "Queen," a name that would follow her throughout her life.
Later, she became a devoted member of St. Luke M.B. Church under the leadership of Dr. Dexter G. Moragne.
Kay was proud graduate of Covington High School's Class of 1976 where she was known for her exceptional talent on the softball field. As a star player for the Covington Angels, she was named Most Valuable Player and was regarded as an athlete whose skills rivaled today's top softball players.
After high school, Kay pursued her passion for beauty and style at Jett College of Cosmetology, where she earned her Associate's Degree. She later moved to Indiana before returning to her humble beginnings in Tennessee in the 1980s. Kay eventually found employment at Brother International in Memphis, TN as a dedicated Mail Clerk.
Two of Kay's greatest joys in life was being a mother to her two beloved sons, Dennis (Tomeka) Taylor and Aaron Taylor, both of Covington, TN and on December 21, 1996, she married the love of her life, Thomas Burrell, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter.
On February 19, 2025, at Covington Care Center, our dearest Kay Frances Tipton Burrell peacefully answered the call of her Heavenly Father. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit, love, and cherished memories will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
In addition to her devoted husband and sons, she leaves behind two "bonus children," Lina BurrellHester of Laurel, Maryland, and Cameron (Lakeeka) Burrell of Memphis, TN. She is also survived by her seven siblings: Eddie L. (Arissa) Tipton of Memphis, TN; Dallas E. Tipton (Beatrice Posey) of Des Plaines, IL; Tony Tipton of Brighton, TN; Connie M. Burton, Maggie L. (Ervin) Cleaves, and Sherrian Tipton, all of Covington, TN; and Yulonda (Gerald) Stewart of Millington, TN.
She was blessed with 9 grandchildren who held a special place in her heart, as well as two additional sisters-in-law, Loraine Tipton of Oak Park, IL, and Vatra Y. Tipton of Memphis, TN. She also leaves behind a loving uncle, Pastor Billy Hawkins of Gary Indian and two dear aunts-Hazel Tipton of Mason, TN and Mildred Hawkins of Covington, TN 3 God children-Jasmine Dyson, Joyanna White and Marrian Tipton; ahost of nieces, nephews relatives and friends.
