With deep sadness, Mary's family shares that she has passed away, in Lakeland, Tennsesse, at the age of 95 on August 18, 2025. Mary was born in Rocky Mount, Nash County, North Carolina, on October 15, 1929, and was the cherished daughter of Mary Blanch Parker Williams and Eddie Williams. Her brother, Raymond Ricks, was called to be home with the Lord before her.
Mary was devoted to her faith and was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church family in Wendell, NC, for over 80 years. She worked with the NAACP for eight decades, serving as chapter president for 41 years, and also became the first Black chair of the Wake County Democratic Party. Those who knew Mary will always remember her for her faith, perseverance, and loving service.
She is survived by her loving family: Vernon L. Perry, Sr. (Patricia), Brenda Fellmer (Bernd), Lavonnie Perry Claybon (Swazoo), Dwight Perry, Sr. (Deceased), five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and many other relatives, church family, and dear friends.
Mary's life will be celebrated with a service on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Wendell, NC, followed by burial on September 2, 2025, at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Wendell, NC.
