Mozell Claybon
Taylor
Jan 4, 1943 — Dec 4, 2024
Mozell Claybon Taylor was born on January 4, 1943, in Mason, Tennessee, to the late George Elmore Claybon Sr. and Lula Wilkerson Claybon. She was a woman of deep faith, accepting Christ at an early age and being baptized at Belmont CME Church. Later in life, she became a devoted member of Cathedral of Praise, where her faith continued to grow.
A proud graduate of Fayette County Training School in 1962, Mozell was known for her remarkable talents both as a majorette and a standout basketball player. Her athletic abilities were often compared to the skill of today's WNBA athletes, a testament to her hard work and dedication.
At the age of 18, Mozell moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where she worked in a bakery for two years. Driven by ambition, she relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, at the age of 20, where she spent several years working for General Motors. Mozell later moved to Toledo, Ohio, where she continued her career at GM and ultimately retired after 30 years of dedicated service.
Mozell's love for family was a cornerstone of her life. She met Deon Taylor, and their union was blessed with three devoted daughters. Mozell's unwavering devotion to her family, her kindness, and her infectious laughter made a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Mozell Claybon Taylor peacefully surrendered to her call from the Lord on December 4, 2024, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Her legacy of love, strength, and faith will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. She leaves behind her three daughters: Monica Miller, Kimberly (Anthony) Henderson, and Stacy (Karl) Burroughs; husband - Deon Taylor; three siblings: Lois (Julius) Wade, Curtis Anthony Claybon, and George Elmore Claybon Jr.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, who now awaits her arrival.
