Obituary

Viola Poindexter was born November 28, 1962, the late Tommie, Jr.  and Eliza Jones Poindexter in Mason, TN.

Although a native of Tipton County, Viola received her education from the Shelby County School District where she was a 1981 graduate of Trezvant High School.

Viola was blessed to find love and wed Gary Maclin of Memphis, TN; This union shared 10 children- Benita (Mario) Price and Gariel Maclin (Marius); Lanita Poindexter (Davion) ; Laketa Maclin, Tarmeka  Maclin (James) and LaToya (Dewitt) Cole; Antario (Kendra) Maclin; Dedrick Benton; Bennie Moore, and the late Demetrius Jones.  She never took her role lightly as a devoted help meet to her husband or mother to her children.


Viola, known as "Sweet Peaches" by family and friends was also loved by many for her "keep it real" demeanor. Her employment journey included Tops Bar-B-Q for many years and  Lebonheur Children's Hospital where she retired in 2008 as an Environmental Service Technician.  After retirement, Viola spent moments doing what she enjoyed; cooking, dancing, singing, and being the "life of the party" wherever she went.


On the 2nd day of September 2024, at the hour of 7:33 p.m., our beloved Viola Poindexter - Maclin surrendered to her call at St. Francis Hospital, Memphis, TN.  In addition to her children, she leaves 7 siblings- Bertha(Joe) Dennis; Barbara Poindexter (Ernest) Green and Mary (Rev. Reginald) Tucker; James (Mary) Poindexter; Tommie (Linda) Poindexter, III; Shirley Poindexter; Ruby Cotton; 2 Sister-in-Laws- Kattie Patterson and Bobbie Turner; 19 grandchildren- Amarria, Amelia, Harmoni, Tamir, Davion Jr., D'Novah, Tardarious, Trevion, Edward, Da'Shun, Eric, Skyla, Mario, Jazmyn and Teranika, Malik, Karon, Aja and Kaytana; 1 great grandchild Trinity; aunts, uncles, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Preceding Viola in death includes her parents; siblings- L.B. Poindexter, Willie Jo Taylor, DeLois Taylor; 1 daughter- and granddaughter - Triniah Maclin
